Families at King Charles

Family Services

The Family Service on the first Sunday of each month is a relatively informal service of about 45 minutes, which takes place after breakfast in the Hall. Special services at particular times of year are also shaped with younger people in mind, such as the Christingle service, the Good Friday family service, and the immensely popular Scratch Nativity.

Cavaliers Junior Church

On Sundays when there is no specific family worship taking place, the 'Cavaliers' meet in the church hall. We all share the first part of the service in Church and the children leave after about ten minutes to pursue a variety of activities. All children of three and over are welcome. Parents are invited to stay with nervous newcomers!

Once a month, those in year 5 and above meet separately as 'Cafe Cavaliers' to discuss a wide range of topics over delicious cake!

Youth Groups

Youth Groups for teenagers in the congregation have flourished in phases, with activities ranging from the outward bound to charitable fund-raising. The current form of the group is the King Charles Discussion Group, which meets monthly on a Sunday evening with pizza to talk about issues of relevance to members. The opening topics of this group were ‘Changing the World -‐ Can we make a difference?’, and ‘Social Media -‐ Being myself? Being a friend?’.

Junior Choir

The Junior Choir comprises about fifteen boys and girls aged 7-14. Recently, its monthly routine has been to rehearse during one morning service a week, in the Hall, and then form the choir for the morning service in the following week, thus meeting twice each month. It also contributes to special services, such as the Christmas Carol Service, along with the adult choir.

This is an opportunity for children to learn something about the Anglican musical tradition and the discipline of choir membership, while having some fun along the way. We make use of music and tuition resources from the RSCM.

Crèche facilities in the church

The vestry (behind the door by the font) is made available for any restless young children during the 10am Parish Communion services. Helpers will be on hand if parents wish to leave children and return to the service, so children of all ages are always welcome at the service.

Full details of all services are here.
